'Backbone' is the first album under the name 'Status Quo' released after the death of 'Rick Parfitt' at the end of 2016 (see his posthumous album here) and after the nice album of 'Francis Rossi' with 'Hannah Rickard' (see here) and the wacken live and the 'Down Down & Dignified at the Royal Albert Hall (see here), this opus is the 33rd studio album, which is to say the extent of the discography because few groups can boast of such a production. First, we hear here and there critics about the release of an album of 'Quo' without 'Rick Parfitt' : to that, I will answer that life resumes its course (and thankfully) and that it doesn't mean that we will forget Rick; on the contrary, this new album is a real album of the 'Quo' and I imagine that Rick, from where he is, must take good time with titles like 'Cut Me Some Slack' or 'I Wanna Run Away with You' because 'Backbone' is a real album' of the 'Quo' : good boogie-rock that gives you an irresistible urge to move with melodies easy to memorize and hyper effective especially since 'Richie Malone' has managed to keep the style of the legendary rhythm guitar of the 'Quo'. And while these 11 songs were originally written by the Rossi / Young duo and were not intended to be recorded, they finally came into being through improvised sessions among the band members during last tour and we are not surprised that each composition has a communicative enthusiasm because we feel this real pleasure to play together. In summary, this last 'Quo' is an opus that is a continuation of what the English know how do better for more than 5 decades and 'Backbone' should undoubtedly be well received by the many historical fans... | |
