There are artists who mark you forever because you followed them from your earliest childhood and they ended up being part of your life: for me, 'Rick Parfitt' is one of the first on this list. All 'Status Quo' fans will be able to tell you, introductory riffs of ‘Caroline’ have always had something magical and gave me goose bumps at the beginning of each concert: Rick and his telecaster, we could not remain indifferent to so much generosity on stage with this happiness that it transmitted to the public throughout each performance. Yes, Rick, despite all his excesses, went away too early on Christmas Eve 2016 but he left us this album 'Over and Out' which was almost finished and should due out in 2017 and thanks to his group of friends has just been born. Obviously, we would have preferred him to be there to present his first solo opus but fate has decided otherwise. We find Rick with of course his boogie rock side but what we know less is that he also composed songs much less rock with a talent for accessible melodies like 'Living on an Island' (here) or 'It's Christmas Time' (here) to name only 2. This album is therefore the image of what he was, first with boogie-rock songs like 'Lonesome Road', 'Fight for Every Heartbreak', 'Everybody Knows How to Fly' or 'Halloween' which he co-wrote in 1985 for a Solo album that never came out and appeared on the B-side of 'Status Quo', 'Who Gets the Love'. But, this album also contains beautiful compositions like 'Over and Out' which has a strange resonance after his death especially since it is perhaps the song of the album where his voice is the most fragile, in the sense filled with emotion. We find this soft side with the melodic 'When I Was Fallin' in Love', in the beautiful ballad 'Without You' or in the melodic 'Long Distance Love' or the catchy rockabilly 'Lock Myself Away'. In the end, 'Over and Out' is of course charged with a certain emotion but is a very beautiful album reflecting the entire musical landscape of this artist who has played and was able to transmit to his audience for more than 50 years this so positive energy...
