I had discovered the Italians 'Barock Project' in 2017 with the release of their album 'Detachment' (see here) and their new recording studio 'Seven Seas' was released in September 2019. 11 tracks for more than an hour of music, it's is the menu of 'Seven Seas' that contains which embarks us for progressive compositions starting with the eponymous title of the album in several parts and a mixture of modern sounds and symphonic elements. First of all, the album contains quite short titles like the 'I Call Your Name', the acoustic 'A Mirror Trick' which has influences of Baroque music, the beautiful ballad 'Chemnitz Girl' or the happy and pop 'I should have Learned to' with a very nice complicity between the singing and the guitar. Then there are three titles with long progressive developments to gradually tame: first, 'Cold Fog' containing beautiful symphonic parts with beautiful passages takes us back to artists like 'Emerson Lake & Palmer' with a lot of sound more modern, then 'Hamburg', which is the longest title with beautiful symphonic sections that can recall certain sounds of 'Kansas' and finally, 'Brain Damage' which is cut in two parts, a first very quiet and a second completely tormented with beautiful passages quite technical. In the radius of my favorites, I will retain the magnificent 'Ashes' with a quiet acoustic introduction and which theme is taken up with the electric instruments and a much more energetic central part and a final resuming the melody of the beginning, but also the last title, 'The Ones' in which we can’t help but think of 'The Great Gig In The Sky' from the 'Floyds', especially since it is the chorist of 'Pink Floyd', 'Durga Mc Broom' invited for the occasion who sings in the second part of the title.

In summary, this new album of the Italians of 'Barock Project' is a nice surprise for 2019 and shows that the group has evolved again towards a progressive researched and inventive which as any album of this quality requires several listenings to well impregnate it...
