Their latest album 'The Human Paradox' was a nice surprise 2016 in progressive metal (see here) and 2018 sees the release of an EP with 4 titles and we feel an evolution in the Canadians of 'Fractal Cypher' that evolve to more melodic progressive and therefore necessarily more accessible starting with the first title 'Coming Back to Life' which can remember some progressive rock bands and especially their compatriots 'Mystery' (see their latest album here). The second title changes of register with a short jazzy introduction that turns into a hard-rock with an energetic rhythm that calms down in the middle of the title to start in an instrumental part with a rather unbridled tempo and 2 guitar/keyboards masterly solos to finish with the sung theme of the beginning. With 'From the Above and the Stars', the style is similar to the previous opus with a juxtaposition of different parts but with a background melodic theme that serves as a common thread for the whole, and the last title 'Red Lady' with a first symphonic and melodic part, hardens in a progressive metal style with a sudden break for a jazzy party that prepares the final returning to the starting theme. In summary, the Canadians of 'Fractal Cypher' confirm this talent to embark on sought-after compositions but which remain accessible thanks to beautiful melodic lines and 'Prelude to an Impending Outcome' is recommended for all those who love the blend between progressive rock and progressive metal...
