If you realize that the good rock and hard rock of the 80s is missing you, here are the Swedes from 'Black Paisley' who release their second album 'Perennials' after 'Late Bloomer' in 2017 (see here). Each track would have been a hit a few decades ago and we're sailing between pop, rock and hard-rock with catchy melodies either in the most energetic tracks or in the ballads: 'I Want Your Soul' opens the album in a heavy style and a catchy first refrain, then, 'Day by Day' is more AOR and the 3rd title, it is a ballad ('Sometimes') that smells good the 70s / 80 with a refrain that we can’t stop humming. The suite alternates these different atmospheres and we can quote 'Step Back' typical of the swaying rhythm of the 70s, the happy 'Alone' which reminds me of the atmosphere of 'The River' of 'Bruce Springsteen' or the beautiful ballad 'Stronger' which is close to the melodies of Elton John'. In summary, this second album of 'Black Paisley', even if they do not bring real news, is a wonderful summary of the best from the 70/80 and 'Perennials' should appeal to all fans of this period... | |
