I presented you their cover of the soundtrack of 'Starchild' from the 'Space Odyssey' series by 'Stanley Kubrick' which they released in 2018 and 'RanestRane' have since recorded the soundtrack for the Alan Parker film', 'The Walls' by 'Pink Floyd' which can be found on spotify here. For their latest album, the Italians have chosen to revisit the soundtrack of the 'Francis Ford Coppola' film, 'Apocalypse Now' released in 1979 and they have chosen to sing the lyrics in their native language. We therefore find interpretations that transform this soundtrack into a series of progressive atmospheres with accessible original melodic lines, such as the first title 'Saigon' which is divided in two with a first instrumental part reminiscent of the beginning of the 'Floyds' with the sounds of 'One Of These Days' then, a magnificent second sung part which unrolls a peaceful melody. In the area of long developments, we are spoiled since these are 3 titles which exceed 10 minutes with the 20 minutes of 'Napalm', in 4 parts, in which we cross multiple different soundscapes, then 'The Eden Cries' offers us contrasting atmospheres alternating different intensities with keyboards à la 'Keith Emerson' taking us back a few decades and finally, the 16 minutes of 'The Horror', cut into 6 sections, plunges us into a remarkable patchwork of different atmospheres, sometimes peaceful, sometimes more tormented. Around these gargantuan compositions, come to be added equally endearing compositions with the two parts of 'Cuore di Tenebra' which are declined in two different versions, 'Playmate' which brings us again to 'Floyds' but this time in the period of 'The Wall' and the final composition 'Un Nuovo Dio' which closes the album in a beautiful way with memorable melodic lines. In short, the Italians of 'RanestRane' once again show all the talent to cover soundtracks that they appropriate, and this latest album 'Apocalypse Now' is added to previous covers and should appeal to a whole public who love a progressive imaginative and melodic... | |
