After the energy deployed by the Swedes of 'Ginevra', a little calm can only do good and I'm taking you to the UK with 'Turin Brakes' who, after their last two albums quite close together 'Lost Property' in 2016 and 'Invisible Storm' in 2018, release a new album 'Wide-Eyed Nowhere'. We therefore find these soft and relaxing atmospheres in the great tradition of English pop on which we have a lot of pleasure to let go: the album begins with 'When You're Around' and its melody which comes to lull our senses with melodious vocals and some slide guitar accompaniments, then 'Up for Grabs' continues by rolling out a melody with a cool rhythm à la 'Chris Rea'. The semi-acoustic titles then follow with beautiful vocal harmonies: we can cite the suite 'World Like That', 'Into the Sun' (see the video above) and 'The Ride' which deploy melodic lines filled of serenity. Change of scenery with the sparkling 'Isolation' which offers electro sounds and more vigorous guitars then, 'All Love' continues in modern "electropop". With 'Solid Ground' and 'Wild-Eyed Nowhere', the end of the album returns to the semi-acoustic atmospheres of the first titles with more nonchalant melodies and the album ends with the melodic jewel 'No Rainbow' bringing us back to a blues atmosphere filled with serenity and we are rocked one last time by the beautiful vocal harmonies and the slide guitar.
In summary, the English of 'Turin Brake' continue to offer us a subtle pop that we taste quietly and 'Wide-Eyed Nowhere' adds a new stone to the building of the English which should please all lovers and all lovers of soft and melodious pop... | |
