Decidedly, symphonic metal releases multiply in this month of September and after the duo 'Allen/Olzon' and the 'Ultima Grace' Japanese group's first album, it's yet another new project that sees the light of day with the Spaniards of 'Lunarian' which is centered on the singer ' Ailyn' ('Pilar "Ailyn" Giménez García') who already has a full CV because she was part of the group 'Sirenia' from 2008 to 2016 and participated in various projects including the metal opera by 'Magnus Karlsson' or the latest album by 'Chaos Magic' by 'Caterina Nix', her latest project being 'Her Chariot Awaits', the first eponymous album being released in 2020. And for this new project 'Lunarian', she collaborated with the producer 'Aldo Lonobile' with, as a result, the release of this first studio recording 'Burn The Beauty'.
Overall, it's a "traditional" symphonic metal and I put this term in quotation marks given the youth of this style which only dates back to the end of the 90s: from the first title 'Don't Wait Until I'm Gone', fans of symphonic metal will not be out of place because we find the atmospheres of the first 'Within Temptation' and it reminds me of this first DVD from the Dutch, 'The Silent Force Tour' from 2005 which displayed this extraordinary positive energy, especially since 'Ailyn' is in the same vocal register as 'Sharon den Adel' and often has the same sentence. Same feeling on the hit 'Dream Catcher' (see the video above) which sends a melodic hymn giving an irresistible desire to move in rhythm, then, the mid-tempo 'Embrace' follows suit and continues in an atmosphere at the marked rhythm, just like 'Bleeding Out' which follows and which offers new catchy melodic lines and which are, both, in the same style as titles like 'Stand My Ground' or 'Memories' from 'Within Temptation'. With 'Embers', we return to more modern metal and closer to what 'Ailyn' does with 'Her Chariot Awaits', the sounds becoming more electronic, then, 'Burn The Beauty' returns to powerful classic symphonic metal in bringing beautiful variations of intensities and rhythms and 'Endless Sleep' (see the video here) continue in this direction with new addictive melodic lines, 'Ailyn' continuing to charm us with her melodious vocals and high up. Make way for the ballad 'Invincible' which offers a nice moment of respite, then, 'Never Ending Circle' is added to the unstoppable melodies which take us back to the beginning of symphonic metal, just like the mid-tempo 'Scarlet' which follows with a marked tempo, the album ending with 'Sacrifice' which delivers catchy melodic lines backed by a muscular rhythm section.
In summary, this latest project from Ailyn' offers classic symphonic metal bringing us back to the beginning of this style and strongly reminiscent of the Dutch of 'Within Temptation', pioneers of the genre in the mid-90s, which intends 'Burn the Beauty' to a whole audience of fans of this original style which has since seen an impressive number of groups emerge all over the world... | |
