Finlands of 'Beast In Black', after 'From Hell with Love' in 2019, are back with a new album 'Dark Connection'. No surprise, it's another dynamite opus with addictive melodic anthems and, as I already mentioned in my previous review, the feeling of hearing 'metalized' 80s melodies is even stronger, especially since the electro sounds are even more present in 'Dark Connection'. And as you never change a winning recipe, 'Anton Kabanen' continues to tell us stories of science fiction, as evidenced by album tracks such as 'Blade Runner' or 'Highway to Mars'. So are you ready to board the 'Dark Connection' space shuttle? Here we go for a succession of haunting songs, starting with 'Blade Runner', which takes everything in its path and whose chorus could well trigger an imminent voice extinction if you try to imitate 'Yannis Papadopoulos', Then the equally frantic compositions follow one after the other with from time to time a more measured rhythm to catch your breath like with 'Highway To Mars' or 'Moonlight Rendezvous' (see video above) and, even with 'One Night In Tokyo' (see the video here) which is a joyful Nipponese electro-melodic-metal pop track, in which you are transported to a 90's nightclub where the DJ would have boosted the speed of the track to better unleash it on the dance floor. And when 'My Dystopia' arrives, even if 'Yannis Papadopoulos' still shows all his vocal power in this ballad, which is aptly called power here, we are happy to have this final break to rest from all the energy deployed before. Note that at the end of the album, the Finns have concocted a nice cover of 'Battle Hymn' from 'Manowar' but also a cover of 'They Don't Care About Us' from 'Michael Jackson' (yes, yes, you read that right !!) which is a bit different (to say the least) from the rest of the album. In short, the Finns of 'Beast In Black' continue to do 'Beast In Black' by offering us a series of muscular hits with catchy melodies and if you went wild and survived the headbanging of the previous albums, you should, without a doubt, also adhere to this new baby 'Dark Connection'...
