I reviewed their album 'The Last Night of Fall' in 2021, and, in the meantime, the Italians of 'False Memories' have added to their discography the EP 'Echoes of a Reflection' at the end of 2021 and the live 'Live Until the Twilight' in 2022. 2023 sees the release of a new studio recording 'Hybrid Ego System'. As I said in the review of 'The Last Night of Fall', after a first listen, I still find in this last opus certain similarities with the group 'Stream Of Passion' which ended its adventure in 2017. On the menu of Hybrid Ego System ', 11 compositions plus the cover of 'The Storm Inside' without 'Annette Olzon', the latter having been invited on this title to share the microphone with 'Rossella Moscatello' (see the video above), for a full hour of 'listen. Overall, we find the atmospheres of the previous albums with powerful compositions on slow tempos, 'Rossella Moscatello' confirming all her vocal talent and alternating with rather well-dosed growls. It is in compositions like 'Holding On' or 'Stains' that 'Rossella Moscatello' makes me think of the atmospheres of 'Stream Of Passion', its range approaching that of 'Marcela Bovio'. In some titles, such as 'The Storm Inside', 'Rising Tide', 'Insanity' or 'Fragments Of Your Ego', there is a progressive aspect which brings a certain diversity to the whole and 'Shed My Skin ' closes the album with a beautiful acoustic ballad.
In summary, the Italians of 'False Memories' continue their momentum by offering us with 'Hybrid Ego System' a good album of metal merging gothic and symphonic with a rhythm section based on slow tempos supported by massive riffs and with a singer who has all the power in her voice for this style of music... | |
