We go to Italy with the first studio album 'Inner Dislocation' from the band 'New Horizons', born in 2013 and evolving in a rather sought after progressive metal and they love artists with obviously in mind 'Dream Theater' and 'Symphony X', references in this style. After the very short and quiet introduction 'Introspective', 'Inner Dislocation' is a powerful and symphonic instrumental piece with very present keyboards. Next is 'Where Is The End', where we discover their progressive style, where the piano mixes with electric instruments, bringing classical influences and where we discover the voice of ‘Oscar Nini’ who reminds me of a certain 'Glynn Morgan' from the band 'Threshold' (see their latest album Ici ). The atmosphere is calmer with 'Born in the Future' which is a pretty classic ballad in its construction. The end of the album is the same style, first 'Borderlands' with an epic first part mixing classic and progressive then a second part extending the first with tasty mixes of styles like for example this very jazzy sung part. Then, 'The Trail of Shadows' closed the album beautifully and certainly was not put there by chance because his chorus is still present in your head after the last note and remind me the atmosphere of the live ‘live ‘The Blinding Darkness’ from ‘Pallas’ dating back from 2003. In short, even if 'Inner Dislocation' requires several plays to discover all the nooks and will certainly be limited to a warning public, 'New Horizons' release a first album of great quality that already rivals the big names of the progressive scene... | |
