It was in 2011 that Canadian 'Cecile Monique' released her first EP and 2018 saw the release of her first studio album 'Genesis'. First of all, it's not so common, but the singer is also an autor, composer and producer, and started to make herself known in Europe during her participation in Wacken to represent Canada in 2013 and was in 2016 in the world's top 5 of the young artists contest at the M'era Luna Festival in Germany. As usually in this style, the album begins with an instrumental track 'Overture (Sicut Erat)' which features classical opera choruses and is also found in mid-album 'Interlude (In Principio)' and last title 'Finale (Nunc And Semper)' identical titles that remind that Cecile is primarily a classical singer. This reference to classical music is found from the outset with 'Genesis' which is enhanced by choruses throughout the title and whose style is more like very accessible symphonic rock, the metal side being set back, which is, of course, reminiscent of 'Within Temptation'. The following titles maintain this style with, for example 'Heat', in which Cecile shows us all her talent as a classical singer, or with 'Another Life', in which the resemblance is striking with 'Sharon den Adel' even in the phrasing. We can also note beautiful encounters between Orient and Occident with titles like 'Break' or 'Alibi' in which Cecile brings beautiful vocal modulations always accompanied by sumptuous choirs and we can’t miss the beautiful ballad 'Ashes', at the end of the album, which is filled with emotion. In summary, with this first album, 'Cecile Monique' takes us in a very beautiful way in his world made of a mix of classical opera and symphonic rock, and 'Genesis' is made to reach a wide audience through compositions very accessible ...
