'Blackberry Smoke' is an American band that is already fifteen years old and is releasing its 6th album 'Find a Light'. In the Southern rock movement influenced by country music, they continue to perpetuate this music which originated in the late 50s and popularized by bands like 'The Allman Brothers Band' in the 60s and 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' in the 70s. So we find the typical style with energetic rock compositions like 'Flesh and Bone', 'Run Away from It All', 'The Crooked Kind', 'Best Seat in the House' or 'Nobody Gives a Damn' that all catch on first listen but also quieter titles still in the same tradition as 'Medicate My Mind', 'I've Got His Song', 'Seems So Far', 'Till The Weels Fall Off' or 'Let me down Easy' that allow to vary the moods. Note the title 'I'Il Keep Rambin' which beautifully assembles a fast rhythm and a gospel accompaniment and the last and beautiful song 'Mother Mountain' that could have appeared on an album of 'Crosby, Still, Nash & Young' in the 70s with the contribution of the chorus of the band 'The Wood Brothers'. In short, even if they do not revolutionize the genre, 'Find a Light' is filled with good authentic compositions and finally very timeless and this latest album of 'Blackberry Smoke' is recommended for all those who love southern-rock or west-coast rock which are 2 Americain rock styles pretty close...
