I didn't know the Americans from 'YYNOT', a band that was created by multi-instrumentalist producer and author 'Billy Alexander' and bassist 'Tim Starace' in 2015. They started by making covers of 'Rush' which can be found on their page bandcamp. It was in 2018 that they released their self-titled debut album which is followed by 'Resonance' in 2019. 'Light and Shade' is their third album which was recorded with singer 'Rocky Kuner' who has now left the band and is now replaced by 'Patty PerShayla'. They offer us a clever mix of pop, rock and hard-rock with marked influences from the great groups of the 70s, 'Rush' necessarily being one of them.

The instrumental 'Wire and Wood' welcomes us with an acoustic guitar on a classical theme then, after a short minute switches to a rhythmic and lively rock, the rhythm section, bass and drums leading the dance of beautiful way, the whole bringing a good dose of progressive with changes of intensity and tempo, then, 'Living Proof', between pop and rock, shows a catchy face with a melody that easily enters my head and makes me a bit reminiscent of the style of some early titles of 'Pretenders', certainly through guitar playing. Cooler and flirting with a Westcoast atmosphere, 'Fall from the Sky' offers us a soft harmonious singing of 'Rocky Kuner' and a very beautiful guitar solo of 'Billy Alexander', then, more energetic, 'Mask' continues in this direct and effective rock very seventies. Change of scenery with the magnificent semi-acoustic ballad 'Firefly' in the great tradition of American song, then 'Weight of the World' and 'Burning Bridge' return to more classic rock with remarkable new vocal performances from 'Rocky Kuner ', the album ending with the melodic and driving 'Stars, Sun and Moon', which sums up this album well with a memorable final chorus.

In summary, the Americans of 'YYNOT' release a very pleasant album to listen to which makes us surf on accessible pop/rock by taking us back to the 70s/80s and we hope that they will continue, with their new singer 'Patty PerShayla', to offer us this quality of music in the future...
