The Italians from Afterlife Symphony, who toured with 'Delain', 'Serenity' and 'Temperance', released their third studio album 'Lympha' less than two years after 'Moment Between Lives' which had been well received by the symphonic and progressive metal spheres. With this latest opus, the compositions have expanded and their style is primarily based on the elaborate progressive metal and, even if titles as a whole do not exceed 5 minutes, several plays are necessary to tame some titles as 'Oroboro' and its breaks of rhythms, 'Mantra' and its melodic lines between East and West or 'Enemy' which mixes electric guitars and strings, the symphonic side being brought, on the one hand, by the singing of ‘Anna Giusto' which is well put forward and, on the other hand, by the addition here and there of sampled classical instruments as in the first title 'Artemisia'. Note the last eponymous title of the album of 10 minutes, which is built in 3 distinct parts : to begin, a progressive metal like the previous titles, then a break for an instrumental part in a very classical style and then an acoustic finale where Anna demonstrates that she is also very comfortable in quieter atmospheres as is the case on the court but very beautiful 'Cremesi'. In summary, the Italians of ‘Afterlife Symphony' released a quality album and assert more and more their progressive style and, even if the melodic lines are not necessarily accessible from the first listening, this 'Lympha' should please everyone who gravitates between progressive and symphonic metal...
