'Sabaton' is one of the most famous power metal groups in the world and Swedes have always been attracted by the great world conflicts. And for their last outing, they attacked the First World War and symbolically began writing the album on November 11, 2018, the centenary of the 'Great War'. Being history buffs, each release is still the subject of many historical research and this latest opus makes no exception to the rule: you can find videos on the different conflicts on their site here. Musically, concerning 'The Great War', the various compositions, narrating different episodes like the battle of Verdun ('Fields of Verdun') or the story of the German aviator 'Manfred von Richthofen' ('The Baron') take us into the well-known world of 'Sabaton', epic, symphonic and grandiose in a power metal style accessible with melodies that we have the feeling to already know them all but which are so effective that we get caught up in the game : from the beginning, with 'The Future of Warfare', everything is well in place for a first title with a chorus that is anchored in your head and each track that follows continues in this way as for example 'Great War' with impressive choruses showing that Sabaton is not far from some symphonic metal formations and this up to 'The End Of The War To End All Wars', certainly the most grandiose title that precedes a emotional 'In Flanders Fields' which closes the album in an a cappella song that can not leave indifferent as to make a last warm tribute to all the victims of this conflict. In summary, the Swedes of 'Sabaton' continue to do what they know to do best, a flamboyant power metal that further highlights these historical testimonies, contributing in their own way to this duty of memory and this album 'Great War' should be well received by all their fans and even beyond because all titles are accessible at first listen...
