In parallel with the project 'Nine Skies', the French 'Anne-Claire Rallo' and 'Eric Bouillette' joined by 'Jimmy Pallagrosi' created a new project 'Solace Supplice' in 2020 and a first eponymous EP was released in July 2020 with 5 compositions (see here). With 'Liturgies Contemporaines', they offer us a pleasant marriage between rock and French song and deliver us in addition to the 5 compositions already known from the EP, 6 other titles, the whole being composed by 'Eric Bouillette' and the texts written by 'Anne -Claire Rallo'.
We are therefore embarked on this universe, sometimes quite dark and sometimes more playful, starting with 'Le tartuffe exemplaire' with its fast rhythm in an atmosphere of urgency with a magnificent fiery and corrosive text. In this style, we are also seduced by 'Les miradors' and a poignant new text, 'Sunset Street' and its haunting rhythm and 'Schizophrénie Paranoïde' which also shows a tormented face. More moderate but just as endearing, we will not miss 'A demi-maux' with its 'Floydian' guitar accompaniment and with its very beautiful saxophone solo, then the poetic 'Cosmos adultérin' unfolds its slow haunting melody then that with 'Au cirque des âmes', we are embarked on a magnificent catchy refrain which then gains momentum with the entry into the tracks of the saturated guitar. In the great tradition of French progressive rock, 'En guidant les hussards' is reminiscent of the poetry released by certain compositions by Ange and, on this track, 'Laurent Benhamou' delivers a moving saxophone solo, then, after the instrumental of the title song (see video above), 'Dans la couche du diable' is another melodic gem which slowly unrolls a slow tempo pouring out a captivating text and which offers a very beautiful guitar solo in the middle of the title, the album ending with another strong moment with 'Marasmes et décadence', in an atmosphere admirably merging an enormous tension and a sweetness brought by the piano accompaniment and some bewitching vocals.
In summary, the French of 'Solace Supplice' release a very emotional first album which shows all the talent of this original formation which manages to merge texts at the same time gripping and filled with poetry with rock tinged with progressive... | |
