'Summer Breeze Project' is a Dutch formation that is 10 years old (the title 'Neon' corresponding to the chemical element number 10) and just released for this occasion a new studio recording. Their influences are marked by the progressive rock of the last forty years with the use of the Hammond organ and, from the first title 'Hollow' (which is a cover of a composition of 2012), I have the impression of hear a merger between 'The Who' and 'Marillion'. Follows 'Leaving Earth' continues in this direction with a melodic and catchy composition, then, 'Travel Light' has an energetic side close to 'Huriah Heep' and 'Broken Water' offers us a ballad classic enough but very effective with a beautiful central part piano / voice and a simple guitar solo but which releases a real emotion. The end of the album scrolls 'Mantra' and its melody lines close to 'Astronomy Domine' of the 'Floyds' with a alternation between quiet parties with the use of the Hammond and others more energetic, then, 'Sleep' is a more atmospheric title with a rather disturbing atmosphere, and the album ends on the 8.30 minutes of 'The Crossing' which is a typical piece of progressive with a succession of different sections with tempo changes. In summary, the Dutch of 'Summer Breeze Project' come back after 7 long years of absence with a very good album of progressive rock and 'Neon' is intended for a rather broad public not only adept of progressive, because all the compositions are very accessible... |
