After the British from 'Doomsday Outlaw', it's 'Wig Wam''s turn to release a new album, after 'Never Say Die' in 2021 which saw the Norwegians return to service after 5 years of separation. Their past label of 'Glam Rock/Metal' continues to stick to their skin (they even participated to Eurovision in 2005 with 'In My Dreams'), but this latest baby, like its predecessor, shows a slight hardening and entry, the two singles 'Out of the Dark' (see the video above) and 'High n Dry', not that of 'Def Leppard' but we could draw a parallel with their compatriots on this title (see the video here), are well-tempered hits that bring us back to the best of 80s melodic hard rock. We continue with the heavy mid-tempo 'Forevermore' (see the video here), with its addictive chorus, then, 'Bad Luck Chuck' picks up the tempo for a new hard rock rush with saturated guitars which lead the dance and, 'Uppercut Shazam' continues in this energy with bursting choirs, just like its successor 'Bad Luck Chuck' with its catchy atmosphere conducive to headbanging. The ballad break arrives with 'The Purpose' which is to be added to the best hard rock ballads, then, return to raw energy with the hard-hitting 'American Dream' and, complete change of style with the instrumental '79' which eyes the side of the ballads of 'Santana' and which shows a peaceful and relaxing face. The last two titles 'God By Your Side' and 'Sailor Ad The Desert Sun' are in the spirit of a powerful hard rock of the 80s, the first with vocal arrangements reminiscent of 'Def Leppard' and the second which, after an exotic introduction, unrolls a heavy mid-tempo with oriental intonations.
In summary, the English of 'Wig Wam' continues to offer us quality albums with melodic lines still as effective and, even if they evolve towards a more powerful sound, 'Out of the Dark' should please to an audience that loves melodic hard rock, bringing us back to the best of 80s hard rock... | |
