'Vicious Thead Society' is the project of 'Graham Keane' surrounded by various artists of the metal scene who releases after a long gestation 'Abject Tomorrow'. We travel in a patchwork of styles and overall, we can talk off progressive metal because, first of all, it is a concept album and, then, all the compositions are very rich and worked and break out of the traditional verse/chorus scheme. The theme is well described by Graham himself : “The story is based in a dystopian future in which all humans are required to have emotion inhibiting implants implanted from birth. One man's implant fails and it chronicles his journey of discovery and reconnection with his humanity" and he adds “The more and more I write, it became a strange biographical narration of my own confidence struggle with putting music into the world". As usual in this case, it takes several listening to begin to absorb the 8 titles and especially the last of more than 18 minutes and split into 6 parts but it is often these albums that pass to posterity. To draw a parallel with another artist, I would say that ‘Abject Tomorrow' approaches Arjen Lucassen's concept albums with certainly a wider variety of styles. In short, 'Abject Tomorrow' should be recommended to all progressive rock/metal fans who are looking for music that carries a message and emotions and not necessarily easily accessible... | |
