The groups of the 80s are not doing badly because, it is the turn of the formation 'Bon Jovi' led by the charismatic 'Jon Bon Jovi' to release a new studio recording called soberly '2020'. We therefore find, perhaps even more on this album, an engaged artist with compositions which smell good a well-balanced mix between effective rock, pop and blues. '2020' is therefore the group's 15th album and 'Jon Bon Jovi' deals with various subjects including "the topical subject", the health crisis of COVID 19 with all its contradictions and the consequences of confinement but also with 'American Reckoning' of the death of 'Georges Floyd' or with 'Lower The Flag' of the armed revolts following the shooting in' Dayton 'in 2019 or even 'Blood In The Water' of the tragedy of migrants who try to flee their country by the sea.
Musically, the opus is varied with references to the 80s / 90s and all fifties will find themselves on familiar ground with names that immediately come to mind such as these blatant influences to the 'Boss' (chronicle to come from his latest album 'Letter To You') with catchy compositions like 'Do What You Can' or 'Let It Rain' but also in more intimate titles like 'American Reckoning' or 'Lower The Flag'. With 'Limitless', the guitar sounds are reminiscent of 'U2', the happy 'Beautiful Drug' with its heady choirs takes us back to much more serene times, as for 'Lower The Flag' and 'Blood In The Water' , they take us back to the great tradition of American singers with 'Bob Dylan' in mind, especially as the themes further increase the emotion of his compositions with vocal performances of 'Jon Bon Jovi' which give us goosebumps, the guitar solo on 'Blood In The Water' still rising a few notches in the intensity generated, the album ending with first an energetic 'Brothers In Arms' then the magnificent 'Unbroken', still reminding me the melodic lines of 'U2' and whose intensity is in total adequacy with the theme dealing with post-traumatic shocks of veterans of the army. Overall, Jon's voice is deeper and therefore touches much more as if he wanted to accentuate the gravity of his speech on our current world in peril. Note that the Deluxe version also available on Spotify offers us three additional tracks, first of all, the cover 'Do What You Can' with the participation of 'Jennifer Nettles' who forms a very beautiful vocal duet with 'Jon Bon Jovi' in the chorus, then 'Shine', a very beautiful ballad which has nothing to envy to the other compositions of the album and finally 'Luyv Can' which closes the album with an equally endearing mid-tempo.
In summary, this latest album from 'Bon Jovi' is again a nice surprise during this disturbed period which, with a certain nostalgia, sends us musically to much quieter times while having modern themes which shows that ' Jon Bon Jovi 'remains, like' Bruce Springsteen ', a committed American, the commitment that makes music, like all artistic expression, an essential place to fight all the evils of our Humanity so that it does not simply become a Dehumanity... | |
