I discovered 'Marcin Pajak' with his penultimate album 'Sound of the Trees' from 2021 and 'The Maze' followed in 2022. And yet, I had not yet taken the time to write a column on this Polish artist who lives in London and who is already on his 6th studio recording in around ten years. years. In a neo-progressive style, he is influenced by all the great groups of the 70s and in particular 'Pink Floyd' but also by all styles of progressive until today. With this latest baby, he takes us into space, the mix of styles ranging from atmospheric to rock through jazz and contemporary sounds which lend themselves very well to the theme of the album.
We therefore leave in weightlessness and this, from the first title 'No More Time' which shows an ethereal face and which delivers a slow tempo on which the haunting song of 'Marcin Pajak' travels, then the title takes flight with keyboards gradually bringing an aerial accompaniment contrasting beautifully with the vocals, then, 'Building the Rocket', more energetic, shows a more rhythmic face on which the saxophone of 'Wiktor Swierczek' delivers jazzy sounds. The ticking of a clock welcomes us in 'Liftoff' then we are taken into contemporary sounds brought by the saxophone and sounds of sirens to leave in space after a starting countdown which continues with catchy rock on which ' Marcin Pajak' offers us remarkable guitar wanderings, then, 'Gravity' welcomes us in weightlessness in an atmospheric atmosphere which begins at a slow tempo, and which accelerates for a catchy second part. We continue our journey into space with the luminous 'Space Travel' which is a long development of more than 10 minutes, and which takes us into a progressive labyrinth with a beautiful alternation between sung parts and rich and imaginative instrumental sections, each artist bringing his stone to the building (magnificent moment with the long saxophone solo of 'Wiktor Swierczek' in a 'Floydian' atmosphere). Follows 'Emptiness' which begins as a ballad with a very beautiful piano/voice duet and which gradually incorporates aerial keyboards accompanied by celestial vocals to take off in the middle of the title by accelerating the tempo with a magnificent guitar solo, the finale returning to the refined atmosphere of the beginning, then, 'Kuiper Belt' brings to the fore the melancholy saxophone, the luminous keyboards and the rougher guitar in a catchy instrumental with very beautiful alternations of intensities. We continue our space journey with 'Thick Clouds' in a more relaxed atmosphere which hardens at the end imaging the problem to arrive safely which brings us to 'Towards the Unknown' which sees the spacecraft drifting in a dark space and empty with musically, a new ballad in which 'Marcin Pajak' offers us a very moving vocal performance. But 'Last Chance' allows us to regain hope with the possibility of finding another final destination and, in this title, we are taken into a marked rhythm supported by impetuous keyboards, the singing of 'Marcin Pajak' becoming more vigorous , then, 'New Beginning' closes this beautiful album on the discovery of a new world and, after a repetitive introduction to the piano accompanied by keyboards with string sounds, it is in an atmospheric 'Floydian' atmosphere that we finish this saga in space in a very beautiful way.
In summary, 'Marcin Pajak', surrounded by talented musicians, offers us a very beautiful album which presents a nice variety of styles allowing this space saga to unfold, and 'In the Space' should please an audience which loves imaginative progressive rock with melodic lines that are quickly tamed... | |
