The Italians of 'Premiata Forneria Marconi' ('PFM') released their first album in 1972 and after having tested several styles including 'Da Mozart a Celebration' which took some composition of Mozart to adapt them to rock, returned to the progressive rock of their beginning with 'Emotional Tattoos'. First of all, it is not 1 CD but 2 with exactly the same titles interpreted for the 1st in English and the 2nd in Italian: so, it's up to you to find the record you prefer. From the beginning, with 'We're Not an Island', we have the impression to embark in a time machine and find yourself few decades back with a certain 'Genesis' because the singing of 'Franz Di Cioccio' reminds me of his colleague also drummer 'Phip Collins'. But it would be too simplistic to compare them only to this group because this latest opus is varied and mix of various influences ranging from pop to rock with compositions always very melodic as Italians know how to do so well. In summary, 'PFM', after already more than 40 years of good and loyal services, continue their way without worrying about fashions and 'Emotional Tattoos' renews with progressive music and should therefore please all lovers of this style... | |
