When 3 artists of the progressive scene themselves for a new project, it's always interesting to see the new baby. In this case 'Randy McStine' ('Lo - Fi Resistance'), 'Nick of Virgilio' ('Spock's Beard', 'Big Big Train') and 'Jonas Reingold' ('The Flower Kings, Karmakanic') have created 'The Fringe' and released the eponymous album. The style is of course progressive but we can say that they do not limit with multiple influences. 'You' remember the syncopated rhythms of a certain group 'Police' with a little Jazzy. 'Opening Day' is a more conventional title a little to the 'Big Big Train'. Next, 'A Second Or Two' takes us on a pace South American 'Santana' (even the small 'Carlos' guitar solo there is!). 'Flare', beautiful title nearly 10 minutes, is a condensed version of the talent of each musician with a pop/rock introduction and part instrumental jazz to finish with the theme of departure this being very well nested. The second lighthouse 'To Steal Yours' title is more psychedelic with a magnificent final guitar solo to the 'Pink Floyd'. In short, this 'The Fringe' is a very good progressive album accessible by many and who more enjoys an impeccable production with a balance perfect between the voices and instruments... -Translated by Microsoft translator- | |
