Little known on our side of the Atlantic, 'Janiva Magness' a renowned artist in the United States since she is already seven times winner of a 'Blues Music Award' and also nominated for the 'Grammy Awards'. His debut album 'More Than Live' dates from 1991 and this latest studio recording 'Hard to Kill' is the 16th of his already busy career, his last opus of 2019 'Change In The Weather' having been devoted to covers of 'John Fogerty'. This new opus shows the diversity of this artist who mixes blues, rock, pop, soul and funk, starting with a catchy 'Strong as Steel' (see video above) with a chorus that immediately hits your head, followed by 'The Last Time' which smells good intense funk showing all the feeling of Janiva's singing in this atmosphere with a marked rhythm. Follows 'Don't You Forget About Me' and which takes us on a playful and dancing soul, then 'Fireman' is a very beautiful ballad in which the American expresses all her sensuality. In four titles, we already have a diverse range of styles and the sequel continues to alternate these different atmospheres and we can mention the other equally catchy funky titles such as 'Lover Girl', 'You And Me' and 'Standing on the Moon ' and the second part highlights magnificent more intimate compositions such as 'Comes Around', 'Right Here', 'Closer' and 'Oh Pearl' which closes the album in a very refined atmosphere in which the American passes a palpable emotion. In summary, 'Javina Magness' offers us a great variety of compositions which demonstrate all her talent as a singer, and which should reach a large audience who love this mixture of styles in the great tradition of American song...
