'Eye 2 Eye' is still a French band that I discover with their 4th album 'The Light Bearer' and who officiate in a progressive rock with seventies flavors. From the beginning, the eponymous title of more than 10 minutes takes us in a melancholic and very melodic atmosphere with several drawers that fit perfectly. The influences are many and obviously, the guitar playing reminds one of 'David Gilmour' and 'Michel Cerroni', their new singer, brings a soul to the compositions that reminds me the artists poise who participate to the different sagas of ‘Arjen Lusassen's', proportionally speaking, because the style remains pop/rock. Note also guests with 'Audrey Ruquet' singer and a string quartet for the very successful title 'Home'. In the end, nothing to throw in the 8 tracks and I cannot stop myself quoting the last track 'Crossing The Mirror' with a final that takes us back to the late 70's with a certain 'Comfortably Numb'. In short, this 'The Light Bearer' is still a very good surprise for this 2017 year and, though it might not please to some people, ‘Eye 2 Eye’ shows that French artists can compete without complex with the great bands of international progressive music... |
