The next three columns will be dedicated to Christmas-related songs with artists in different musical styles. First of all, the band 'Lee Aaron' will finally release in 2021 the album 'Almost Christmas' which was ready at the end of 2020 but could not be released in time (it was already available for Christmas 2020 on sale on Lee's website). After the very good 'Radio On!' a few months ago, this opus contains not only covers of different artists in an energetic rock but also two original tracks at the end of the album with the title track and 'More Fun on the Naughty List' in a joyful Christmas atmosphere, to which we can add 'Peace On Earth' that 'Lee Aaron' had released in 1991. In terms of covers, we sail through the ages starting with the late 50s with 'Zat You Santa Claus?' performed by 'Louis Armstrong' and 'Run Run Rudolph' written by 'Johnny Marks' and 'Marvin Brodie' and immortalised by Chuck Berry, then, we travel through the 60s/70s with 'Baby Please Come Home' from 1963's 'Darlene Love', 'I Don't Believe In Christmas' from 1965's 'The Sonics', the moving 'The Fiddle And The Drum' by 'Joni Mitchell' from 1969 and the well known 'Merry Christmas Everybody' by 'Slade' from 1973, the rest being more recent with 'It Doesn't Often Snow at Christmas' by the 'Pet Shows Boys' from 1999, 'Everything's Gonna Be Cool This Christmas' by the band 'Eels' from 2002 and finally 'All I Ever Get For Christmas Is Blue' by 'Over the Rhine' from 2006.
In summary, this collection of Christmas songs by 'Lee Aaron' is a real pleasure that takes us back in time with compositions packed with good energy but also with beautiful moving moments showing all the talent of this jack-of-all-trades who adapts perfectly to all styles of music... | |
