It had been 6 years since the Australians of 'Vanishing Point' had released an album, 'Distant Is The Sun' being their last opus released in 2014. Tagged in melodic progressive, this new baby 'Dead Elysium' shows an inflection towards a melodic metal whose progressive components are less and less present, but this in no way alters the quality of this album which offers us 10 varied titles with sumptuous arrangements and melodies that we immediately appropriate.
The eponymous track of the album welcomes us with incisive guitar riffs in a first direct hit that immediately puts us in an appetite for the suite which is made of two melodic jewels, first of all 'Count Your Days' and its addictive chorus (the 'play again' touch worked a lot for me) then 'To the Wolves' which is made from the same barrel with a new catchy and radiant melody, the kind of songs that put you in a good mood for a whole day. With 'Salvus', the tempo slows down but the melodic level is still there with a heavy sound with a deep bass conducive to the headbang and beautiful alternations of intensities, then, with 'The Fall', it is again an enthusiastic title whose chorus spins in your head and which has a final with its rise of two tones (I love it !!). Follows 'Free', the longest track of the album and which brings more sophisticated arrangements and which offers a construction alternating tempos and intensities, then, 'Recreate the Impossible' is more classic and puts forward a raging rhythm section, and 'Shadow World' reminds me of the compositions of 'Kamelot', 'Silvio Massaro' offering us a beautiful vocal performance, the album ending with an energetic 'The Healing' embellished with symphonic arrangements and finally, a last heady melody with 'The Ocean'.
In summary, the Australians of 'Vanishing Point' are returning to the forefront of the melodic metal scene with this remarkable album 'Dead Elysium' which should be well received by a whole audience that sails between melodic and symphonic metal... | |
