I introduced you to the latest album 'Songs From The Hard Shoulder' by the progressive rock band 'The Tangent' in 2022 and, a few months later, released a live that traces different periods of the group, 'Pyramids, Stars & Other Stories'. The fans already knew the concert of 2004 period 'Roine Stolt' released in 2005 and are added two other concerts, in 2012 in Great Britain' for the 'COMM Tour' and in 2017 in the 'United States' with the current line-up, the whole representing nearly two hours and thirty minutes of listening. So, of course, for this double CD, we can't really say to ourselves: "I'm going to listen to it for breakfast", because, if you want to take advantage of these three concerts, you must necessarily sit down and savour each title at its true value. Even if the last period is not highlighted (it will be for the next live in 10 years!), for all those who like a sought-after progressive and who know the group having picked up a few compositions here and there (and I'm one of them), it's a good way to discover or rediscover them by letting yourself go in rich and dense sound labyrinths, merging different styles, the instrumental parts being simply brilliant (It would take a much too long review to fully describe them and it wouldn't do much). In short, with this impressive live, 'The Tangent' delivers us a kind of best off which, icing on the cake, offers us a concert interpretation bringing all the spontaneity of such a moment, whether with the various small imperfections (normal when you run 20-minute titles) but also with all these magical moments that bring a real communion between the artists and the public... | |
