After a debut album 'Time' in 2019 with his project 'Lastworld', singer 'David Cagle' releases with multi-instrumentalist 'Jim Shepard' a second studio recording with 'Over The Edge'. Known for having participated in multiple projects, the American 'David Cagle' has, among others, recorded in the last two years 'That's Gonna Leave Me a Mark' released in 2018 with 'JK Northrup', 'Walking A Straight Line' released in 2020 with the project 'Marty And The Bad Punch' and 'Ready for Attack' also released in 2020 with the 'Silent Tiger' project.

'Judgment Day' starts the album with an energetic track that takes us back to the hard rock of the 70s and the melodic lines remind me of 'Rainbow', then, 'What If I'm Right', which follows, is much quieter in an AOR style with nice vocal harmonies and, although the tempo is faster for 'Dying to Live', we stay in the same atmosphere. The first break arrives with 'It's Cold Inside' with a mid-tempo slowly unrolling a classic but very pleasant melody, then, 'Never Enough' returns to energetic hard-rock always very melodic reminiscent of the 80s/90s and the eponymous title of the album continues in fairly classic AOR with a remarkable guitar solo. Second break with the ballad 'I'll Be Alright' and its memorable chorus then, 'I'm Not Afraid' is a new quiet mid-tempo while 'Wasting My Time' which follows, is much more energetic and direct, the album ending with, first the melodic gem 'Too Late' and a new chorus that never leaves you and finally a quick 'Tomorrow Is Another Day' with more muscular guitar riffs.

In summary, 'David Cagle' with his accomplice 'Jim Shepard' release a varied album mixing rock and melodic hard-rock with easily accessible compositions and, therefore, 'Over The Edge', even if it won't revolutionize melodic rock, is pleasant to listen to and is recommended for all amateurs of melodic rock taking us several decades back...
