Like the famous power metal groups that are 'Alestorm', 'Sonata Arctica', 'Powerwolf' or even 'Twilight Force', the Germans from 'Thornbridge' are also a sure bet in this style and, after their first album 'What Will Prevail' dating from 2016 which was followed by 'Theatrical Masterpiece' in 2019, they are back with a new LP, 'Daydream Illusion'. Fans of a deluge of sound, a wild rhythm section and choruses to repeat in chorus until your voice goes out, you are in the right place and this latest album has all its advantages by taking us into the theme of the circus that the Germans. After the short instrumental introduction in an atmosphere of circus music which invites us to enter the big top of 'Thornbridge', the title song hurtles at 100 miles an hour with a first catchy melody (see the video above) and if you adhere to this atmosphere with the fast rhythm, you should also like the two following compositions 'Kingdom Of Starlight' and 'I Am The Storm' (see the video here) which both have unifying refrains. In the same vein, follows 'Sacrifice' which confirms that the Germans are goldsmiths when it comes to addictive choruses with the help of catchy choruses and 'Island Of My Memories' has nothing to envy of its predecessors. After this abundance of fast tempos and surges of power, the beautiful ballad 'Send me a Light' allows a well-deserved moment of recovery, then we start again with 'Bird of Salvation', slightly slower but which still has all the ingredients of a very melodic metal brulot with 'hohoho' in the finale which give an irresistible desire to repeat them in chorus. The end of the album offers new well-paced melodies with 'The Final War', then 'My Last Desire' drives the point home in a new track with a wild tempo (see the video here) and 'Lost On The Dark Side' concludes this album with a final composition at a fast tempo with a slight break in the second part of the title.
In summary, even if the Germans of 'Thornbridge' are not going to revolutionize power metal by using the well-established recipes of this style for several decades, they give us unifying melodies in a very unbridled speed metal and 'Daydream Illusion' should please a metal audience who likes to sing unifying anthems that we take on at first listen... | |
