After 'Third Degree' in 2019 and after the 'Neal Morse' solo album 'Sola Gratia' a> with also 'Mike Portnoy', the super group 'Flying Colors' offers us a live performance from their last world tour (wonderful memory of concert at Z7 on December 11, 2019 !), and this 'Third Stage' is the closing concert in London at the 'Shepherd's Bush Empire' on December 14, 2019. In the same time, of course, the blue ray is released which is essential in this kind of live experience to fully enjoy the concert.
Now taking into account the discography that is starting to grow, since it is now three studio albums that 'Flying Colors' has at its disposal, this last live (remember that it is also the third of the group after the magnificent 'Second Flight: Live At The Z7') o ffers us near 2 hours of music with titles fairly well shared between the 3 opus, the last album, 'Third Degree' being well represented with 6 compositions. We therefore navigate between all these titles which have now become familiar to us and which all have their own personality, starting with the hopping 'Blue Ocean' which begins the concert in a joyful atmosphere, then follow one another 'A Place In Your World' which recalls 'Genesis', 'The Loss Inside' taken from the last opus bringing a more energetic side with its addictive rhythm section then, 'More', with its introduction with its catchy guitar riffs continues unabated to enchant us as well as compositions like the melancholy 'Kayla' or the funky 'Geronimo'. The ballad break is present with the magnificent 'You Are Not Alone' and the lightness that takes us back to the sixties is brought by 'Love Letter' and the end of the concert offers us a final bouquet made of long remarkable developments with first of all 'Peaceful Harbor' which rises a few notches the emotional cursor, a magical moment that I will remember for a long time with the audience singing the melody at the end of the track, then, with the three compositions 'Crawl', 'Infinite Fire' and 'Cosmic Symphony' of more than 10 minutes each and which are taken from each album, we stay on the little cloud on which we had previously climbed for 35 minutes of pure happiness, the concert ending with 'The Storm' and, well obviously the essential 'Mask Machine' which puts a smile on all the lips of each spectator but also of each member of the group.
In summary, as you will understand, this live of 'Flying Colors' is a must have and as often in this case, get the blue ray because there is nothing like living with the image these magical moments offered by these five artists who put all their talent at the service of this formation which in a few years has become an essential group of progressive rock... | |
