I do not know if it is the current period which makes all Human being nostalgic for a time of greater wisdom "that those under twenty have not known" during which the word risk was synonymous with Life whereas now it has become a supreme insult which makes us slowly slide towards a sanitized world where Life has become a survival. Still, here is another band from the 70s which we remember fondly with their two historic members, 'Eric Bloom' and 'Donald Roeser', respectively 75 and 73 years old, releasing a new studio recording 'The Symbol Remains' (quite a program), while we were no longer expecting it, the last opus 'Curse of the Hidden Mirror' already dating from 2001. So as not to make you languish, this last album is a real killing and worthy of the greatest hard-rock albums of the 70s with an irreproachable production and a feeling throughout the repeated listenings of this little intact flame of playing this music that they have always loved. From the first track 'That Was Me' with its communicative energy to the last 'Fight' in a calmer melodic rock (14 tracks in all for an hour of listening), everything is there to have a wonderful time and I would have a hard time to give preferences because each composition brings its own personality and each gave me this desire to replay it from the first listening. It is therefore unnecessary to write a long column because the most important is to have a good time listening to this new offering from the Americans which should please not only all fans of 'Blue Öyster Cult' but also a whole audience loving a direct and efficient hard-rock and for my part, 'The Symbol Remains' has done me a lot of good again and will turn many times in my playlist of my best-of 2020... |
