It's only in October 2017 that Spotify put online the last 'Ten Years Ater', 'A Sting in the Tale' which was released at the beginning of the year for the 50 years of the band. Severe criticisms on this album shows that some have not yet digested the break with the late 'Alvin Lee'. Certainly, for me, there is a before and after 'Alvin Lee' (which incidentally took place in 2003 and not at the death of the guitarist in 2013 and they have already released 2 albums since). Of course, these two periods can never be compared under the pretext that the group has kept its name and we could quote many examples in this case : so why 'Ten Years After' would have been the exception and should have changed its name ! Let's try instead to ignore all of this and let's focus on music. This 'A Sting in the Tale' contains melodic nuggets between blues and rock that makes you feel better and immediately triggers the need to tap your foot or shake your head like in 'Land Of The Vandals', 'Iron Horse' or 'Suranne Suranne', others quieter and melancholy like 'Up To Smoke', 'Stone Alone' or 'Diamond Girl'. In short, with this 'A Sting in the Tale', we should rather rejoice in the longevity of this group with 3 members over 70 years, still releases albums of this quality : hats off, gentlemen... | |
