Russian 'Egor Lappo' continues to release albums with impressive frequency and after 'Trancevoicer' in 2021 and 'Naturealism' in 2022, it's the turn of 'Abandoned Corners' to see the light of day. Always in a catchy style but this time between pop and rock with some incursions into the progressive, the whole is bathed in keyboard sounds which take an important place. For this opus, 'Egor Lappo' has concocted 10 new compositions for us in radio formats not exceeding 4 minutes.
The first three compositions 'Neverending Storm', 'My World on Pause' and 'New Lines' confirm this catchy melodic feeling and offer us for the first, a catchy title reminiscent of the sounds of the 80s, for the second a light and popy mid-tempo with an endearing melody and for the third, guitars bringing a beautiful fullness in the chorus with original alternations of tempo and power in the second part. Follows a radiant 'Last of Her Kind' which takes us back to this carefree style of the 80s and which can recall certain sounds of 'Alan Parsons', then, 'Move On' continues in these reminiscences of the eighties by slowing down the rhythm for a very beautiful ballad with a new chorus which very quickly comes to be grafted in the head. We are halfway through the album and 'Engraved on My Heart' is an instrumental featuring electronic piano sounds filled with a beautiful melancholy, then, the synthesizers are still in the foreground in the catchy 'Creature Confort ' which continues in this light pop atmosphere bathed in electronic sounds. The end of the album scrolls through three other melodious compositions, with, first of all the ballad 'Out of Touch' which delicately tickles our eardrums, then, 'Monochrome' is a very endearing refrain on a three-beat rhythm. which gives this irresistible desire to accompany it while dancing the waltz, and finally, 'No Cloud' is a ballad with a last memorable melody.
In summary, certainly more moderate than 'Naturealism' which was on the whole more energetic, 'Egor Lappo' offers us a new album filled with beautiful catchy melodies at first listen and 'Abandoned Corners' is to be recommended to a large public who like to mix pop and rock in a light and harmonious atmosphere... | |
