The French 'Jean Pierre Louveton' continues to rummage into his drawers to offer us old compositions and this time it is the 90s that are in the spotlight with this 'Retrospections, Vol. III.’. As usual, with 'JPL', not easy to put in a box because you navigate between progressive music that is pop, rock or metal, French song and very eclectic instrumental music. For proof, with the first title ‘Un doigt sur la gachette’, we embark in a western close to 'Sergio Leone' (we even have the chorus) with a 2nd part much more classic jazz/rock to finish on the theme of departure. The sequel is a mix of French pop rock like comme ‘Une étrange Idée’, ‘Des Illusions’, ‘Sur les pentes glissantes de la folie’, ‘Absent’ ou ‘Comête’ but we are also entitled to titles in other styles like 'Luvmoons' and its very funky rhythm, the energetic instrumental 'No Speed Limit' and finally the very progressive ‘Mes Heures Sombres’ which makes me think of 'Lazuli' (see here). In summary, 'JPL' with this latest opus, continues to offer us quality recordings and confirms that he is a complete and essential artist of the progressive French landscape; if you liked previous episodes, you should definitely join this third volume of 'Retrospections'...
