Since the creation of myprogmusic in 2015, I have regularly presented the albums of 'Mostly Autumn', the latest being 'Graveyard Star' from 2021 which was followed by the sublime live 'Back In These Arms' in 2022. For this new release from the Britaniques, it's neither really a studio album, nor really a live one in the sense of a concert in front of an audience but covers of some of their compositions recorded in the legendary studio of the 'Beatles', 'Abbey Road'. And for this occasion, they have invited a string quartet (no information on its composition) and offer us an anthology of their discography for our greatest pleasure: then parade the melodic jewels which are now in the memory of each fan starting with 'The Man Without a Name' which gives goosebumps from the start, the title being stripped down with just the piano and a few strings accompanying the sublime singing of Olivia Sparnenn-Josh'. Also keeping just the substantive marrow, follows 'Silver Glass' which continues to transmit this palpable emotion and the compositions parade one after the other maintaining throughout this particular concert an emotional level at its paroxysm, the joy of playing in this mythical place certainly having a lot to do with it and the impeccable recording bringing a very special dynamic to this unique moment. In short, after the live release released in 2022, it is yet another magnificent album that the British of 'Mostly Autumn' offer us and if you do not yet know this group and you like calm atmospheres in progressive rock, 'Studio 2' is a good way to discover them with essential compositions from their repertoire... |
