'Imminent Sonic Destruction' is an American progressive metal band that I discovered a little over 5 years ago with their second album 'Triumphia' and who have just released a new studio recording, 'The Sun Will Always Set'. Lovers of heavy and powerful atmospheres with incursions into progressive music in all its forms, you have come to the right place because this new baby from the Americans offers us 7 dense compositions which improve over time, and which develop catchy melodic lines which makes the whole relatively accessible.

And yet, in the introduction, the short and very beautiful 'Arise', in a refined piano/voice atmosphere with the participation of the singer 'Lady Luna', does not in any way bode well for the sequel, because, from 'Fledgling', we are embarked on a title overflowing with energy with a magnificent introduction highlighting the piano interspersed with saturated guitar riffs and which continues in a slow tempo, alternating moderate sections with clear vocals and others much more massive with a furious song. Follows 'Source' with an introduction gently bringing a new imposing atmosphere with a rhythm section which leads the dance in a set of original variations in the long instrumental part in the middle of the title, then, 'The Core' further hardens the subject in an even heavier climate and offers very imaginative melodic digressions. Change of scene with 'Solitude' which could be the ballad of the album, and which takes us into a much quieter atmosphere but nevertheless supported by an imposing bass and which deploys a more energetic instrumental section in the second part of the title. We arrive at the centerpiece of the album, 'Nighshade', over 12 minutes long, made of multiple drawers thanks to a construction highlighting a constantly changing rhythm section reminiscent of major formations in this style such as 'Haken' or 'Pain Of Salvation' and who develops parts catchy sung at the end of the title. And it is with the eponymous title of the album bordering on 9 minutes that we end our progressive journey in a much more measured atmosphere than what preceded and which deploys beautiful melodic lines with a remarkable collegiate vocal section.

In summary, the Americans of 'Imminent Sonic Destruction' release a new quality album which still shows an evolution with the previous album and if you like a progressive metal with heavy and thick riffs with sought-after constructions and melodic lines remaining very accessible, you should definitely join 'The Sun Will Always Set'...
