On every tour of 'Steve Hackett' we usually get an album release which is, for all fans of the former 'Genesis' guitarist, a pure bliss. 2019 saw the release of the admirable 'Genesis Revisited Band and Orchestra - Live' and 2020 therefore see a new release with the recording of the concert at the 'Hammersmith Apollo' in London, on November 29, 2019 in which the compositions of 'Genesis' are still present but also with a first part taken from his solo career. No need to write a long review, with the references I have just mentioned, we are immersed in the world of English with, as always, a remarkable recording which perfectly conveys the concert atmosphere. First of all these are compositions from two of his solo albums, with a good part of 'Spectral Morning' from 1989 and three titles from his magnificent last opus 'At The Edge Of Light' (casually, 40 years separate these two albums and the first one has not aged at all), then, 'Selling England By The Pound', the legendary album of 'Genesis', is interpreted integrally with the highlight of the title 'Firth of Fifth' well known to all sixty-year olds, fans of 'Genesis', and finally, it's still titles from 'Genesis' which end the concert with first of all 'Deja Vu' which had never been released by 'Genesis' and which appears in Steve's 1996 album 'Genesis Revisited I' (credited originally to 'Steve Hackett' and 'Peter Gabriel'), then the two unmissable 'Dance On A Volcano' and 'Los Endos' from the 1976 album 'A Trick Of The Tail'.
In short, needless to add something, these two hours pass at breakneck speed and re-embark us in the wonderful world of timeless progressive rock with as conductor, 'Steve Hackett' who, surrounded by artists great talents and thanks to a perfect recording (the 5.1 surround version was mixed by 'Steven Wilson') offers us a nice gift for this end of 2020...
