'Septon' is a new symphonic and progressive metal band whose members are Colombian (which goes to show that this style has no borders) and who have just released their first album 'Cradle of Deception'. Led by their guitarist 'Leonardo Utria', their name 'Septon' has been taken from pre-Columbian art and represents the union between divinity and human. The symphonic component is brought by the singer 'Angie Bula' and the progressive side by a complex rhythm section with regular breaks of tempo. Strangely, after listening to the 10 tracks, I feel like I hear a mix of different bands that are dear to me : 'Renaissance' for certain melodic lines such as in 'Omen Whispers', 'Amberian Dawn' (see their latest album here) for the metal aspect and sustained tempo as in 'The North Remember' and 'Edenbridge' (see their latest album here) for the ruptures between the instrumental and sung parts as for example in 'Hellish Dome'. In all cases, what is certain is that even if the above references are on my own personal responsibility, they already have a very personal style and for a first album, they already show a beautiful maturity in their compositions. In summary, if you are fans of a variety of metal that goes from symphonic to progressive, you will probably not be disappointed by 'Cradle of Deception' and we should hear about 'Septon' in the metal sphere in the years to come...
