With the Dutch of 'Dool' and their first studio album 'Here Now, There Then', we could say after the first listen that they embarked us in a heavy and dark rock that is usually called 'doom'. But like groups practising this style, even if the atmosphere remains heavy on certain compositions, the ensemble is relatively varied and melodic : 'Vantablack' which opens the album is typical of doom style but the following title 'Golden Serpents' contrast with the rest with its catchy rhythmic. 'Ryanne Van Dorst', on vocals, brings a rock style with an original register with a great capacity to adapt as on the excellent 'Words On Paper' and its heady refrain (in the good sense of the word). With 'In Her Darknest Hour', even if we come back to a heavy rhythm, the melody and the song make it a catchy title. My favorite song goes to 'Oweynagat' which quickly becomes a progressive marvel with its final crescendo. In short, with 'Here Now, There Then', we must stop at the first listen if we want to hang because this opus takes some time to be tame and to discover every nook and cranny...
