Decidedly, after 'Joe Lynn Turner' and his last album of the project 'Sunstorm' (see here), here is another young 70-year-old boy in the person of 'Don Airey' (he has been the keyboardist of 'Deep Purple' since 2002 when 'John Lord' left the band) who releases a new album 'One of a Kind'. For the occasion, Don has called on the singer of 'Nazareth', 'Carl Sentence' and the compositions smell the good hard-rock of the 70s in which the keyboardist gives all his heart. From the first title 'Respect', we are in a "Purpulienne" atmosphere that makes us go back to a certain 'Deep Purple In Rock', just like the following title 'All out of Line' which is a powerful mid-tempo, and with 'One of a Kind', we stay in the same period but in a melodic rock style and that's also the case with 'Running Free'. Follows 'Every Time I See Your Face' which is the first calm composition of the album to which we can add the power ballad 'Want You So Bad' and the instrumental 'Remember to Call' very typical of the seventies. In addition, icing on the cake, the last 4 titles are live covers of 'Deep Purple' ('Pictures of Home'), of 'Rainbow' ('Since You've Been Gone' and 'I Surrender') and of 'Gary Moore' with the classic but very effective 'Still Got The Blues'. In summary, this 'One of a Kind' is a bit of a return to the roots and the band at 'Don Airey' offers us a very good classic hard-rock album but definitely timeless that should please all fans who have savored in the 70s artists like 'Deep Purple' or 'Gary Moore'...
