Edison's Children' is a band that was formed in 2008 by Pete Trewavas (bassist of Marillion - see their latest live ici - and of 'Transatlantic') and by 'Eric Blackwood' with already 3 albums plus 1 EP (see here); they evolve in progressive rock in the great tradition of the 70s bands and 'The Disturbance Fields' which was released in July 2019 is in continuity with previous albums. In addition to the 2 founders, the guitarist and bassist Rick Armstrong' who is none other than the son of astronaut 'Neil Armstrong', the drummer 'Henry Rogers', also officiating for Mostly Autumn (see their latest and magnificent album here) as well as Lisa Wetton' the late John Wetton's girlfriend ('King Krimson' and'Asia' among others) were added. Without any breaks, the the whole of 68-minute length, divided into 14 parts, deals with climate change due to the overdevelopment that man is inflicting on the planet. So, we find a progressive style often tending towards atmospheric moods, starting with the very calm opening 'Captain's Ledger' which introduces 'A Random Occurrence' and its aerial keyboards and slow tempo, then, depending on the theme, the music is put at the service of the title as in 'Asphyxation' which is much darker, then, 'The Approaching Front', with its repetitive melody, offers a beautiful crescendo and 'Indigenous' which follows, after a first part spoken, takes up the theme of the previous title. The next 7 tracks, from 'The Surge' to 'Resurgence' are to be taken as a whole because the latter at the end of the title takes up the theme of the first with beautiful melodies in an atmosphere alternating tension and relaxation : for example, 'Into The Dead Calm' is the purest and slowest track but carries within it an impression of heavy tension and we can note 'A Random Disturbance' which brings us back as an echo to 'A Random Occurence'. 'The Confluence', the longest track on the album, is typical of progressive music, which uses the same musical phrase but without any weariness because it has multiple variations that keep the listener's attention all the way along. In summary, with 'The Disturbance Fields', 'Edison's Children' release a quality concept album in a rather classical progressive style that takes on its full dimension by combining music and the message conveyed...
