'ProgAtom' is a Norwegian group that releases its second studio album 'Spiral' and they have the peculiarity of singing in their native language which may seem a little rough to some. Their influences are marked by the beginning of the progressive in the late 60s with sounds that can be found in formations like 'Focus', 'Yes', 'King Crimson', 'Genesis' or 'Procol Harum' with the use of Hammond organ, Mellotron and with melodies typical of this era that may seem outdated now but have rocked a lot of people in the 60s and 70s. 'Åpent Hav' opens the ball with beautiful choir effects and a melody that takes us back a few decades; Following 'Å Være' and its atmospheric ambience then, 'Tidstyv' recalls the chorus of 'BJH', first period, and 'Vakker Og Skjøret' mix classic music and epic rock; with 'Sirkel', it's an instrumental track reminiscent of 'Focus' then 'Homo Digitalis', more than 10 minutes, puts side by side atmospheres that can be found in the beginning of the progressive and finally, the title 'Den' neste veg' cradles us with its honeyed melody that ends with a simple but very effective guitar solo lasting 3 minutes. In summary, as you understood, Norwegians 'ProgAtom' draw their inspiration from the origins of progressive rock and 'Spiral' is intended for all those who would like to go back in time, at the time where progressive rock was born inspired by different musical currents of the time as diverse as pop, blues, rock, classical or jazz...
