France is not necessarily a reference regarding symphonic metal, but after 'Beneath My Sins' (see chronicle Here), it is up to a new French group, 'Midnight Sorrow' to release their first studio album, 'Pick A Tale'. With 'Glorious', we think immediately of the leading bands of the genre and notably 'Leave's Eyes' with an alternation between Maureen's aerial chant and the growls of Samuel. With 'Between Sun And Moon', we are close to 'Nightwish' with a Celtic side, a lively rhythm and choirs very present. The follow-up maintains the same level with arrangements always worked and varied compositions in their structure like 'Treasure Of Your Life' of more than 11 minutes where they flirt with the progressive music. They do not neglect either calmer titles and the second part of the album contains 3 with the title in 2 times 'At First', 'Phase' and the last title 'A Last Ceremony' and, although 'Maureen Morvan' still has a margin of progression in her singing in the powerful parts, she already shows all her talent in these titles where she brings a particular emotion. In short, 'Midnight Sorrow' hits hard with 'Pick A Tale' and should make a good place in the fairly closed world of symphonic metal, that's all that we wish for them...
