'Spiral Key' is a band created in 2013 by two English, the singer and guitarist 'David McCabe' and the bassist 'Ken Wynne' and who have just released their 2nd studio album 'An Error of Judgment'. It is with this opus that I discovered them and the first listening has already left me a great impression by making me think of bands that I like as 'Threshold' (see their latest album Here), 'Pallas' or 'Arena' (see their latest album Here). Then, listening after listening, we discover all the wealth of compositions that mix progressive metal and rock. At the beginning, with 'Reason Revolution' it’s a title with breaks between power and relaxation reminiscent of bands like 'Dream Theater' (see their latest album Here),'Porcupine Tree' or 'Pain of Salvation'(see their latest album Here). The following titles are of the same style and alternate calm and energetic parts with melodies that catch you immediately and we find influences from all the groups mentioned above. And then, there is 'Possessive', which is worth the purchase of this album by itself : with its 9 minutes in length, it starts with classical influences and an introduction close to 'Jean-Sebastien Bach', then comes a symphonic and melodic intense sung part that gives you goose bumps; the second part of the title explores other horizons by mixing the classical sounds of the beginning and the progressive to finish in beauty on a melody at the 'Dream Theater' where the singing of 'David McCabe' alternates with superb guitar solos. In summary, in early 2018, the English of 'Spiral Key' offers us a real gem between rock and progressive metal and 'An Error of Judgment' is already one of the major progressive albums of this year...
