'Shadowlight' is an English progressive rock band that released an album in 2012 ('Twilight Canvas') and nothing until 2018 with this new album 'Stars Above the City'. It starts with the short 'Adreline Bomb' which after an introduction of some sound effects poured incisive guitar riffs for a very energetic title and then, without transition, 'Gravity' continues in a fairly steady pace for a melodic title with a first sung part that precedes an instrumental part with a beautiful guitar solo and after a short break, the finale is more classical and alternates instrumental and sung parts. With the following tracks 'Summerfade' and 'Dusseldorf', the style is more progressive and is reminiscent of bands like 'Blackfield' (see their latest album here) or 'Sylvan' (last album on Spotify here). The suite is of the same level with beautiful melodies that are accessible from the first listening and with rich and worked arrangements, each member of the group bringing his stone to the building for a great overall result. The last title 'Undending', with its 12 minutes and its construction in 3 parts is a good summary of the progressive style of the group that develops sought ambiances while remaining very accessible. In summary, the English of 'Shadowlight' come back in force with this new album which is a 2018 good surprise and, if you like accessible progressive rock, 'Stars Above the City' is made for you...
