The 'Live At Pompei' by 'Gilmour' brought me some memories and, as 2016 saw the release of an enormous compilation of 'Pink-Floyd' frim their first part of career 'The Early Years 1965-1972' it gave me the idea to return to volume 6 which for the anecdote was originally planned to be the album 'Obsurred By Clouds' but which by mistake had been replaced by the 'Live At Pompei' of 1971. At this time, 'Pink Floyd' had just released his two albums, which I still consider to be two bombs in the history of music, first of all 'Atom Heart Mother' from 1970 (you know, with the cow on the cover) and then 'Meddle' from 1971 that I discovered a few years later and which was one of my first musical shock. A young film director, 'Adrian Maben' then proposes to them to film them live but without public in the arenas of Pompei. Even if certain titles, due to technical and timing problems, will be shot in Paris with scenery, the chosen titles of the time (partly from 'Ummagumma') and the atmosphere of the atmosphere of the empty arenas that bring us back 2000 years back blend to give something timeless that goes far beyond music. Indeed, these years have allowed the ‘Floyds’ to present two different faces and the error on the CD 'OBFUSC/ATION' allows us to make these two facets obvious by putting them side by side : first of all a conventional approach with the first part 'Obscured by Clouds' and his compositions influenced by other artists of the time such as the' Beatles' which sets the stage for the psychedelic style with titles like 'Burning Bridges' or' Wot's ... Uh The Deal' or 'Free Four'; then, a perpetual search for new sounds with this 'Live At Pompei' by experimenting and taming their new electric instruments which gave titles like 'Careful With That Ax' of 'Rogers Waters', 'Saucerful of Secrets' or the unavoidable 'Meddle' of about 25 minutes or the anecdotal 'Mademoidelle Nobs', which features the dog of 'David Gilmour' (also under the name of the dog, 'Seamus' in the album 'Meddle'). And here, we say to ourselves that the next album could only feed on these two orientations and you know what happened : the release in 1973 of 'Dark Side Of The Moon' which is for me the climax of this group and which will become the global success that we know. To conclude, this 'OBFUSC/ATION' is the testimony of this era when this band of friends was far from the star-system and had as its sole objective to seek new musical paths that they found to become precursors and open the way of what is now called the progressive music...
