The Italians from 'La Bottega del Tempo a Vapore' (not easy to wear a name that means the workshop of steam time) have just released their 2nd studio album 'Viaggi InVersi'. Their style is a mixture of progressive rock and metal with fairly standard titles in the length except 'Dama di spade' which is more than 25 minutes. After the short instrumental introduction that mixes sound effects and some keyboard notes, 'Goccia di Tenebra' takes us into a rather untidy metal piece with accessible melodic lines and where the keyboards lead the dance which can recall the 'Dream Theater' style. Follows 'Urla e derdonami' who abandons the progressive side for an energetic title with a classical asser verse / chorus structure. With the following 2 tracks of 'Tempo Inverso', they integrate electro sounds in the first part which alternates quiet acoustic and powerful electric sections and the second part is a crescendo where the beginning is punctuated by the narration of ‘Alfredo Martinelli' and which continues with a very 'Floydien' guitar solo to fall back and end with some acoustic guitar chords. But the cornerstone of the album is 'Dama di spade' which embarks us for a typical progressive title where we take pleasure to get lost in the different nooks and crannies of different parts in a patchwork of styles. In the end, 'La Bottega del Tempo a Vapore' shows once more that the progressive is doind well in Italy and 'Viaggi InVersi' should appeal to all those who love traditional progressive music...
