'Bendik Brænne' is a Norwegian multi-instrumentist, author and composer who released his third studio album 'The last great country swindle' at the end of 2017. For this opus, he surrounded himself with several Norwegian musicians but also with Canadian 'Daniel Romano', who is an artist of country. His style takes us back to the 60s and 70s with the sound of the Hammond organ and even in the album cover, it feels like a few decades back (there is even the mention 'stereo' that we saw on the 33 and 45 rpm at this time). From the beginning, he transforms the energetic 'Runaway' of 'Del Shannon' from the early '60s (also well known to the French for the cover of 'Dave') into a peaceful ballad and the sequel is divided between vintage pop and blues like 'Aint' nobony like me', 'Quick-loving hearts' or 'Worries me' and more composed titles like 'Summerfield', 'I'll be gone tomorrow' or 'Close to the ground' which reminds me of some melodies of ‘Elton John'. In summary, this 'The last great country swindle' is a journey back in time and should appeal to all fans of the atmospheres of the 60s/70s...
